Spicer T. Stetson

Biography:    Spicer T. Stetson was born in Sherman, New York on August 15, 1832. He came to the Hydetown area around the oil boom of the early 1860s. He worked as a sawyer at the mill of Charles Hyde and later as a blacksmith. An injury to his eye in rendered him no longer able to work. He was bedridden for the last few years of his life.

He married Emeline Spaulding in July 1856, with whom he had four children: Fred, Herbert, M.J., and Armintia Stetson-McFadden. Spicer moved in with his daughter (who also lived in Hydetown) after his wife’s death in 1879. He died at age 81 in and was buried in Ridgway Cemetery beside his wife.
