Biography:    Martin Van Buren Hooker was born in Vermont on August 19, 1830. He lived his young life near Lake Champlain and Fort Ticonderoga and Whitehall.

He was remembered as being kind and hospitable, honest and neighborly.

He married Mary Conway in 1853 at age 23. Mary preceded him in death eight years prior. Hooker came to Crawford County in 1863 and lived in Hydetown for almost 22 years.

He was survived by three sons and one daughter: George (1858 – ?), Ella ( 1861 – ?), Frank (1865 – 1947), and Adelbert (1868 – ?). He is interred in Ridgway Cemetery.
