Biography:    Eliza Hyde Ridgway was born November 22, 1824 in Eagle Village, New York. She was raised there until her family moved to Cherrytree, Pennsylvania in 1837. Her father, Elijah Hyde, was one of the first settlers of the region.

Eliza Hyde married Samuel Ridgway in 1848 and the couple lived in Hydetown for the next sixty years. Her late husband, who passed in 1901, founded the Ridgway Sanitarium and created the famous Ridgway Acme Linament.

Samuel and Eliza had eight children: Frances (1850 – 1927), Diademma (1851 – 1890) , Ida (1853 – 1890), Eliza (1855 – 1919), Samuel E. (1858 – 1938), Willis M. (1860 – 1927), Charles A. (1865 – 1917), and Mallie (1867 – 1888).

She witnessed the development and modernization of the entire area and the rise and fall of the oil industry. A Unitarian by faith, Eliza was remembered as a kind and loving person throughout her long life.

Eliza Hyde Ridgway died on January 22, 1907 of old age.
